As for the failing to initialise, do you mean the game simply does not load at all? Make sure your game is fully patched as well as your copy of Windows (just to be on safe side). Also, if it does allow you to get to the title screen, check out your network options and check whether you have the correct network interface selected. These are the only suggestions I can give at the moment since I'm not near my desktop. I'll have a look at my install when I get a chance and post again.
